New Delhi, Feb 1 : The chill over Northern parts of the country prevailed with below normal temperatures being recorded across the region.
Cold intensified across Kashmir Valley and Ladakh today with minimum temperatures plunging several notches below the freezing point.
People in the Valley and Ladakh had got some respite from the intense cold wave yesterday following an increase in the mercury, but the relief proved short-lived as the minimum temperature plunged in several areas today and MeT office forecast moderate to heavy snowfall between February 3 and 7.
Minimum temperature plunged several degrees below the freezing point in many areas with the summer capital Srinagar experiencing a drop of three degrees in the night temperature which settled at minus 4 degrees celsius today.
The maximum temperature recorded in the city yesterday was 6.7 degrees celsius, a drop of three degrees compared to the previous day.
The skiing resort of Gulmarg, star attraction for tourists visiting Kashmir, was the coldest place in the valley, recording a minimum of minus 11 degrees celsius as against yesterday’s 10 degrees celsius.
A relatively warmer morning greeted Delhiites with the minimum temperature rising by over two degrees to settle at 6.7 degree Celsius.
Today’s low was two degrees below normal for this time of the season and 2.3 degrees more than yesterday’s minimum of 4.4 degree Celsius.
The maximum temperature in the last 24 hours was recorded at 21.6 degree Celsius. MORE
