Elections 2011 General — 30 June 2011

Jamshedpur, June 30: In Jamshedpur constituency, the parliamentary by-election will take place tomorrow which will witness contest among allies of the NDA government in Jharkhand.

The BJP has fielded Dinesh Goswami, its state president, ally JMM, Sudhir Mahto, a former deputy chief minister and the AJSU Party, Aastik Mahto, a former secretary of the JMM central committee.

Besides them are Suman Mahto, the Trinamool Congress candidate who switched over from the JMM after being denied ticket. She was state unit president of the JMM’s women’s cell.

The Jharkhand Vikash Morcha (P) of former chief minister Babulal Marandi has fielded Dr Ajay Kumar, a former superintendent of police of East Singhbhum district.

The Congress has fielded its MLA from Jamshedpur West, Banna Gupta.

There are also eight independents among the total 20 candidates in the fray.

The by-election was necessitated after Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda vacated the seat after he won the Kharswan assembly by-election in February.
