Twitter, a famous social networking site is regarded as less accessed site compared to Face book. A new study conducted indicates that inspite of having over 200 million registered users, half of the tweets shared on this popular site are actually generated by a small group of members.
The famous search engine Yahoo conducted this study. It reviewed about 260 million tweets from July 28th, 2009 to March 8th, 2010 and found that 50 percent of the messages were shared only by a group of 20,000 users of the site.
The researchers were able to distinguish between users using the twitter lists. The users such as celebrities, bloggers, and representatives of media outlets and other formal organisations – and ordinary users were identified.
It was also found that only media produces most of the information and celebrities are the most followed ones in twitter.
