Kochi, Dec 30 :: Dr Sunitha Krishnan, social activist and co-founder of 'Prajwala', an organisation which gives a helping hand to trafficked women and girls, was today declared 'Indiavision Person of the Year' for 2011.
The decision was announced by a jury headed by noted litteratteur M T Vasudevan Nair.
"A work of hazardous nature that even a lifetime of a person is considered insufficient to achieve the goal, had been successfully accomplished by Dr Sunitha Krishan and her team in 'Prajwala', Nair said.
'Nirbhaya', a similar project of Sunitha's, to be launched in Kerala, will be an inspiration for those involved in rescue and rehabilitation of women sexually exploited, he said.
The award,carrying a prize money of rs one lakh and memento, has been instituted by Indiavision Satellite Communication Ltd to ackowledge the contribution that records remarkable and qualitative change in the life of individuals and conducting of society, the channel said in a release.
Sunitha rescued over 3200 girls who had endured unimaginable torture in brothels, it added.
